Hurricane Irma

Post by MAX6 » Thu Sep 07, 2017 7:49 pm

Orlando International KMCO will cease operations at 5 PM Saturday Sept 7, 2017 real world, therefore I am cancelling Max Freight Orlando virtual operations till KMCO officially re-opens. There will be no ramp service or outbound flights till KMCO is officially re-opened

Those wishing to participate in virtual operations simulating real world can fly Max aircraft to Huntsville International, Huntsville, Al. KHSV, We will have a 737 to jump seat pilots back to Orlando to fly another plane to Huntsville (simulated).

A real world request,, many of our vpilots and former vpilots all live on west coast of Florida just south of Tampa, including Ashley Winters, MAX 607. Join me in praying for their safety.

I am posting this to give a sense of how deadly this hurricane is and how it may touch the lives of people we know who are part of this VA. This thing is deadly serious.

Re: Hurricane Irma Airport closures and delays

Max Freight pilots have asked where they can fly humanitarian supplies to.

There are two disasters that require humanitarian relief, Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

To give Max pilots a realistic humanitarian supply effort the following links may be useful in determining what airports are open, have limited services, or still closed.

http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/usmap.jsp

http://flightaware.com/

As we fly cargo, the UPS and FedEx web sites are very useful

UPS affected operations https://www.ups.com/us/en/service-alerts.page?id=alert1

FedEx affected operations http://www.fedex.com/us/servicealerts/

Be aware that in many cases there will be no ATC, if you fly on VATSIM use unicom freq 122.80 where no ATC is available.

Keep in mind Max also uses TeamSpeak for discrete communications between our pilots.

UPDATE

FEMA has designated Homestead AFB Fl KHST as the staging area for hurricane supplies going to the Keys and the Caribbean. Max Freight pilots are authorized to fly direct to Homestead

We now have two humanitarian operations, Harvey and Irma. Randolph AFB is the staging area for Harvey, Homestead for Irma.

Obviously outbound freight at Orlando has been affected by Irma. However, freight is going strong out of Huntsville, Memphis, and Atlanta. Deadhead is authorized to these airports to load outbound freight.

Pilots are free to fly these routes or one of their own, note in your PIREP the flight is for hurricane or humanitarian relief.

Remember, every hour flown counts towards a real world donation to hurricane relief.
